Abstract

In this article, acities type S180 is taken as the model. The average days of survival of the animals in the experimental group are 30 to 40 days; the days of survival of the control group are 12 to 15 days. The rate of life expectancy having been prolonged is above 50%.

We have experimented and proved that Zhineng Qigong has a tumor inhibiting effect on mice’s sarcomata, S180 solid tumor. This experiment takes ascitic type S180 as the model to further study Zhineng Qigong’s antitumor effect.

 

Material and Method

Swiss mice, both male and female, with the average weight at 18g to 20g, are chosen for this experiment. Each animal is inoculated 0.2ml tumor suspension (which contains 2×106 tumor cells) in their stomach under the aseptic condition. The mice are randomly divided into a control group and an experiment group and each group has 10 animals. The experiment group begins to receive the external qi transmitted by the qigong masters 24 hours after the inoculation. In the first and second batch of experiment, one qigong master sends external qi. It is carried out one time a day and each transmission lasts for 10 min. External qi is transmitted for altogether ten times. In the third batch of experiment, another qigong master begins to send qi, one time a day, two to three min for each transmission. It is transmitted for altogether ten times. The control group is not treated by any special process. The index of observation is the average days of survival of the mice that have tumor in them and the rate of how long their life is prolonged.

Result and Discussion

The result of the experiment shows that Zhineng Qigong has an evident antitumor effect on ascites type S180. Details are shown in Table 1.

The experiment is done repeatedly for three times. The result of it indicates Zhineng Qigong’s effect on prolonging the days of survival of the mice with ascitic type S180 tumor in them. These mice’s days of survival are obviously longer than the days of survival of the control group. The rate of life expectancy that has been prolonged is over 50 percent. It shows that the effect of Zhineng Qigong is meaningful. The mechanism of the effect still needs further study. (1993)

Effects of External Qi on Transplanted Sarcoma S180 in Mice

Abstract

Transplanted sarcoma S180 in the mice are taken as the samples of tumor in this experiment. The growth of tumor is evidently inhibited under the effect of external qi in the experiment group.

This research aims at exploring Zhineng Qigong external qi’s tumor inhibition effect on the transplanted sarcoma S180 in mice. The experimental result shows that Zhineng Qigong external qi has an evident inhibiting effect on tumor. The rate of tumor inhibition has reached 84.4 percent.

 

Material and Method

Animals in experiment: Kunming mice multiplied in the Operation Research Institute of China’s Academy of Medical Science are chosen for the experiment. The mice, both male and female, are 10g to 20g in weight and are randomly divided into the external qi group, the short-wave infrared ray qigong instrument irradiation group and the control group. Each group has ten mice.

S180 tumor strains are provided by Pharmaceutical Research Institute of China’s Academy of Medical Science. Dilute ascites S180 in the proportion of 1:4 under an aseptic condition and inoculate each animal in the armpit with a subcutaneous injection of 0.1ml (1×106 tumor cells). 14 hours after the inoculation, transmit external qi to the experiment group. The qigong master sits in front of the cage of mice and sends external qi to them at a distance of 50cm from them. The transmission of qi is carried out one time a day and each transmission lasts for about 17min. The qigong master transmits qi for altogether 12 times. In the short-wave infrared ray group, irradiation goes on at the same time. The dosage of irradiation is 2mm/cm2. It is carried out once a day and each irradiation lasts for an hour. The control group is not treated by any special process. The animals of the experiment group and the control group are fed separately.

In the second week, the tumors are taken out of the mice and are weighted. The tumor inhibition rate is calculated according to formula. The tumor tissues are fixed respectively with solution Bouin and glutaric dialdehyde. They are examined with light microscope and electronic microscope.

 

Result

  1. External qi has an obvious inhibition effect on S180. The tumor inhibition rate is

84.4 percent (See the table below).

  1. Morphological Observation

Under the light microscope, it can be seen that the tumor cells in the control group exhibit typical malignant features. These tumor cells vary in their shape. The nucleocytoplasmic ratio is big. They have many different kinds of cell nucleus division phase whereas the cytoplasm in the external qi groups is vacuolate. The cell nuclei are not intact or are broken. The mesenchyme is hyperemic and is infiltrated by many lymphocytes.

With the electron microscope, it can be observed that nucleocytoplasmic ratio of the tumor cells in the control group is big. Volutin agglutinates in the cell nuclei. While the tumor cells in the external qi group show evident degeneration. Mitochondria become vacuolated. The cytoplasm still has the remnants of the fragments of cytoplasm.

  1. In the process of experiment, it is discovered that the formation of tumor in the

external qi group is two days later than that in the control group. When it is finally the time for taking the tumor out of the mice, no tumor is found in five mice in the qigong group. In the control group, tumors are found in all the mice. In the short-wave infrared ray qigong instrument positive control group, four mice have at last no tumor formed in them.

 

Discussion

The result of this research shows that external qi evidently inhibits the transplantedtumor in the experimental animals. This is similar to the result having been reported by quite a few researchers.

The mechanism of this effect still needs further study. To analyze according to the general condition of the animals, for example, the animals are energetic, lustrous in their hair, full of life in their eyes, have good appetite, etc., it is perhaps that, just like human beings, these animals’ adjusting ability in their body is promoted to inhibit the growth of tumor after the qigong masters transmit qi to them.

In sum, qigong science is both an agedly old and a brand-new science. Research into it to facilitate the development of the science of the human body has definitely far-reaching significance. (1992)

A Tentative Study of the Effect of Zhineng Qigong on Erythroleukemia in Mice

Abstract

This experiment aims at observing Zhineng Qigong’s effect on the multiplication of mice’s erythroleukemia cell line (MEL) that is cultured outside their body. The result of the experiment proves that the cell multiplication in the experiment group is evidently inhibited.

Cell culture technique is adopted in this experiment to observe the tumor inhibition effect of Zhineng Qigong upon mice’s erythroleukemia(MEL) cultured outside the mice’s body. The major index of observation is the effect of external qi on the multiplication of cell line of MEL tumor.

 

Material and Method

Tumor Strain: Mice’s erythroleukemia (MEL) cultured outside the mice’s body. They are kept in cryopreservation and revived in our laboratory.

Condition of culture: The cell culture medium is DMEM that contains 10% calf blood serum. Each milliliter of the culture medium contains 100 international unit penicillin and 100 microgram streptomycin. The tumor cells are cultured in the incubation box with 5%CO2. The culture temperature is kept at 370C.

Make cell suspension out of the MEL cells that are growing well. Color them with trypan blue before counting the number of cells and divide them into different bottles. The experiment is repeated for twice. The first time: Culture the cells in big glass bottles; the number of cells is 10×104 in each milliliter of cell medium. The second time: Use small glass bottles of 25ml; the number of cells is 3×104 per milliliter of culture medium. We arrange experiment group and control group in both these two times of experiments, with 10 bottles of cells in each group. Qigong masters stands in front of the bottles and transmits external qi to the experiment group 24 hours after the cell suspension is divided into the ten bottles. He transmits qi once a day. Each transmission lasts averagely about 18 min. The control group receives no special process of treatment. The number of living cells and dead cells in the two groups are counted everyday. Each day, cells in two bottles are computed and we obtain the average of MEL cells in each milliliter of culture medium everyday to observe the influence of external qi on the proliferation of MEL cells.

Result

The results of the two experiments are similar. Both show the evident inhibiting and killing effect of external qi on MEL cells cultured outside thee mice’s body. Now the result of the second experiment is drawn into a growth curve. The numbers of the multiplication of MEL cells each day in the two experiments are compared in the following table.

Discussion

The growth curve indicates that the multiplication of cells MEL in the second experiment is evidently affected by Zhineng Qigong and shows a tendency of going down directly. In the first experiment, though fluctuations occur, the number of cells in Zhineng Qigong group on the 6th day is 4×104 per milliliter culture medium, while that in the control group is 363×104 per milliliter culture medium. Everyday, afterMEL are colored with trypan blue,it can be seen that there are more dead cells in the qigong group when the number of cells are counted. As for the mechanism of Zhineng Qigong inhibiting and killing cells MEL, it needs further study.

In the process of the experiment, we perceive that qigong master’s mental instruction plays an important and magic role in influencing the growth of tumor cells. Mental instruction is an activity that is going on in the human brain; it is material. Yet how should we check and measure its biological effect? What kind of material the mental activity in the qigong state is? What is the standard for its dosage? How should we measure the dosage? All these questions deserve further exploration.

The index that is measured in this experiment is relatively simple. It is just a preliminary observation and is for reference only. (1992)

Tentative Exploration into the Effect of Zhineng Qigong on Cell Hela in Human Cervix Cancer

Abstract

This article is about the observation of Zhineng Qigong’s effect on the super micro structure of tumor cells. The result shows that Zhineng Qigong, functioning on cells Hela, is not only able to stimulate and bring about the death of the cell program (cellapoptosis), but seems to be also able to induce the necrosis of the cells at the same time. The two factors that lead to the death of the cells are combined and inhibit the limitless multiplying ability of tumor cells.

Qigong therapy that has been enjoying a history of thousands of years in China has also a rather profound foundation. It is now attracting more and more recognition throughout the world. There is a great variety of qigong, however. We have reported the influence of Zhineng Qigong on the formation ability and the multiplication ability of cell Hela’s clony in human cervix cancer (Gao Cuihua, et al., an article waiting to be published in Oriental Qigong). It has been proved that Zhineng qigong has an inhibiting and killing effect on tumor cells (Cao Xuetao, an article published in Nature, 12:190, 1989). The aim of this experiment aims at observing the influence of Zhineng Qigong on the super micro structure of tumor cells.

 

Material and Method

  1. Hela cell lines are kept in cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen in our laboratory. They are swiftly revived at 420C and are cultured in an incubation box at 370C with 5% CO2.
  2. The culture system of RPM11640 culture medium (bought from GIBCO Company) contains 10 percent of calf blood serum (bought from Biochemical Reagent Company of Blood Research Institute in China’s Academy of Medical Science), 100u/ml penicillin and 100ug/ml streptomycin (both bought from Shanghai No. 3 Pharmaceutical Factory).
  3. Generation Culture

Let the multiplication happen when the cells are at the increased logarithmic phase. Inoculate 2×104 cells in each culture bottle with a culture area of 25 cm2, and inoculate altogether 16 bottles. Divide them randomly into two groups, with 8 bottles of cells in each group. Let one be the control group and the other the qigong group. Change new culture medium into the bottles every two days.

  1. Function of qigong on the cells and the counting of their number.

From the day when the cells are inoculated, five Zhineng Qigong masters begin to organize qi field together in four successive days. They transmit qi with their mind once a day, and each period of qi transmission lasts for 15 min. Observe the growth of the cells in the two groups with light microscope. Collect the cell suspension respectively when the cells have been cultured for 24h, 48h and 72h since the first qi transmission and wait to treat them with the method recorded in 5. At the same time, take one bottle from each group everyday. Digest the cells that have become deposited and count the rest cells that have become adhered to cell walls.

  1. Collect cells and observe them with electronic microscope.

Collec the cell suspension of each group respectively when the cells have been cultured for 24h, 48h and 72h since the first qi transmission. Centrifugalize it for 5min at 1000rpm and deposition of clone can be seen at the bottom of the bottle. Wash the cells with equilibrium liquid PBS (PH7.4). Move them into eppendorf tube and centrifugalize them in the way mentioned above. Fix them for 1h with 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution. Change PBS solution into the bottle to immerse the clones and store them at 40C in the refrigerator. The cells that have received qi for four successive days are all treated as this. Then all these cells are fixed in 1% osmic acid for 1h, dehydrated in gradiant alcohol, imbedded and made into super thin sections for the observation under electronic microscope.

 

Result

  1. Observation with light microscope and computing the number of cells.

For four days since the inoculation, observe the cells everyday with light microscope. It can be seen that the cells in the qigong group are very bad at adhering to walls. They are sparse in distribution and there are many dead cells, while the cells in the control group grow exuberantly. They grow adhering to the cell wall and are densely distributed. The number of cells that become adhered to walls in the two groups is counted each day as follows (Table 1).

Statistical analysis shows P value is less than 0.05 (P<0.05). The number of cells that get adhered to walls in the qigong group is less than that in the control group, as indicates that, with the effect of qigong, the growing trend of becoming adhered to walls in the cells is reduced and that qigong has an inhibiting and a killing effect on tumor cells growth. This effect makes the number of suspension cells increase, whereas the cells in the control group grow exuberantly and show a multiplication tendency.

  1. Observe with transmission electronic microscope.

In cells Hela treated with Zhineng Qigong, there are not only melted and dead cells but also evident change in most of their super micro structure, as conforms to the features of apoptosis of cells. Observe them after the cells have been  cultured at 370C for 24 hours. Chromatin of the cell nucleus agglutinates and tends

tend to adhere to the boundary of the cell nucleus, ie., the phenomenon of chromatin going to the periphery. The cytoplasm condenses. The membrane of cell nucleus and that of the cytoplasm become rolled up (Fig. 1 ×6000, Fig. 2 ×8000). Having been cultured at 370C for 48 hours, it can be seen that the fragments of cell nucleus are enclosed by the membranes that have become projected on the cell surface and are separated into apoptotic bodies (Fig. 3 ×5000). Only few cells become dead in the control group when they have been cultured for 48 hours and 72 hours, which is shown in that the cell organ expand, not much change occurs in the external form of the cells and their chromatin

slightly agglutinates (Fig.4 6000).

Discussion

The effect that Zhineng Qigong brings about on the tumor cells cultured outside the human body shows that the therapeutic effect of Zhineng Qigong lies in external qi, ie., the external qi causes the above-mentioned change in the super micro structure of the cell without the qigong masters’ physical contact with the materials being treated and leads to the death of tumor cells, ie., the death of programmatic cells, or called the process of the apoptosis of cells. Meanwhile, from the number of cells, it can be seen that Zhineng Qigong external qi can inhibit the malignant growth of tumor cells and has a killing effect on them. It in a certain extent inhibits the feature of the tumor cell that limitlessly proliferates.

Apoptosis is a topic that gradually attracts more and more attention of researchers in recent years. It was first put forward by Kerr, an Australian scientist, in 1972, which provides people with further knowledge in the recognition of the death of cells. The death of cell includes the mechanism in two aspects: One is necrosis which happens when the cell is acutely damaged. The feature of the cell in this condition is that the cell swells, breaks with expansion and the substance contained in the cell spills, which leads to the inflammation in the surrounding tissues; while apoptosis belongs to “normal death” of the cell, the feature of which is as what has been described in Result in this article (See Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3).

 

Zhineng Qigong, when functioning on cells Hela, seems to be able to induce necrosis besides its ability to stimulate and cause the death of cell program. The two factors that bring about the death of cell combine to inhibit the infinite multiplication ability of tumor cells. Necrosis bases on how acute the damage in the cell is; while the death of cell program concerns the activation of some of the genes, eg., gene bcl-2, gene myc, gene P53, etc. and as well the influence of some apoptosis factors, such as Apo-1/Fas, TGFβ. Changes as these wait for further research in the days to come.

The programmatic death of cells may provide new strategies and new ways of thinking for human beings to get control over tumor. At the present, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are both established on the theory of cell virus. These methods have their disadvantages in overcoming drug-resistance and heterogeneity of tumor cells. Once people know about the detailed mechanism of adjusting and controlling the program of cell death, they can exert the special and super killing effect of gene induction on the tumor cells that vary in types and origins. Meanwhile, Zhineng Qigong induces apoptosis of the tumor cells and it shows that this “yuan qi” is actually material. Obviously, the mechanism of how Zhineng Qigong kills cancer cells still needs further exploration.

Abstract

This experiment takes Cell Hela in human cervix cancer as the experimental subject in order to observe Zhineng Qigong’s inhibiting and killing effect on the tumor cells cultured outside the human body. The result of the experiment shows that: a) Zhineng Qigong can partially kill cells Hela and inhibit their growth before they become adhered to wall and soon after they adhere to wall, thus reducing the number of clones that can finally come into form; b) As for the cells that have already formed into small clones, Zhineng Qigong can evidently inhibit their proliferation and kill part of them, thus reducing the number of clones that can finally have over 50 cells in them.

Preface

It has been reported that Zhineng Qigong has a therapeutic effect on tumor patients and an inhibitiing effect on experimental tumor. However, due to the difference in materials and in the qigong masters, the results of experiments are not all the same, which consequently leads to different opinions about the truthfulness of qigong. In this experiment, cells Hela in cervix cancer cultured outside the human body are taken as the subject in order to observe the inhibiting and killing effect of Zhineng Qigong on the tumor cells cultured outside the human body. The preliminary result is now reported as follows:

 

Material and Method

The Hela cell lines are kept in cryopreservation and then are revived in our laboratory. They are made to proliferate in the culture medium of RPMI1640 that contains 10 percent of calf serum. Choose cells Hela that grows in increased logarithmic phase. Make them become unicellulars with the digestion of pancreatin and then inoculate them into the aseptic culture vessels (60mm), with 200 cells in each culture vessel. Culture them in the condition of 370C, 5%CO2. The culture vessels are randomly divided into three groups: the control group, Li Jiahong (qigong master) qi transmission group, Wang Ximing (qigong master) qi transmission group. The whole experiment is carried out in two parts. The first part: On the day when cells Hela are inoculated, the qigong masters transmit qi to them before they adhere to wall. The qi transmission goes on for three days, with one transmission of qi per day. In each qi transmission, the qigong masters send qi to the culture vessels for 10 to 30 min with their mind and observe Zhineng Qigong’s inhibiting and killing effect on cells Hela before they become adhered to wall and soon after they become adhered to wall. The second part: On the fourth and the fifth day after the inoculation of cells Hela when they have grown into the small clones with about 20 cells, qigong masters begin to transmit qi to them. The qi transmission goes on for three days with one transmission of qi each day. In each qi transmission, two to three qigong masters organize qi field and transmit qi to the culture vessels for 10 to 30 minutes with their mind and observe the inhibiting and killing effect of Zhineng Qigong on the cells that have already formed into clones and are vigorously growing. During the whole experiment, we observe the clones and the form of cells in them under the microscope each day. After 11 days of culture, the clones in the culture vessels are colored with Giemsa and the number of clones that have over 50 cells is counted.

 

Result and Discussion

  1. Zhineng Qigong’s inhibiting and killing effect on cells Hela that have not become

adhered to wall: The result of the experiment is shown in Table 1. This part of the experiment is carried out in three experimental batches. In the first experimental batch, the cells in the three culture vessels of Liu Jiahong qi transmission group fail to grow into cell groups; the cells in Wang Ximing qi transmission group reduce in their number of cell groups. In the second and the third batches of the experiment, the clones in the culture vessels of the two qigong transmission groups both decrease in number. This shows that Zhineng Qigong can inhibit and kill in part the cells Hela that have not adhered to wall and can prevent theses cells from forming into clones so that the number of clones in the qigong transmission groups is reduced.

  1. Zhineng Qigong’s inhibiting and killing effect on cells Hela that have already

formed into small clones.

1. Zhineng qigong’s effect on the size of clone and the shape of cell in the clone: After three qi transmissions, there are both in the two qigong groups some clones in the two qigong transmission groups are in bad shape. Fig. 1 shows the clone and the cell shape in the control group and the qigong groups on the 9th day of culture (when the qigong transmission groups have given three times of qi transmission). The clone of cell Hela in the control group has grown into a clone with over 50 cells. The cell boundary is clear and more phenomena of cell divisions can be found, which shows that the cells are exuberantly multiplying, while in the qigong group the number of cells in the clone is still around 20. The cells have not proliferated. Besides, the cells shrink and contract and their boundary is not clear. Their cytoplasm is turbid. Some of the cells are already broken and dead. Some only show the trail of dead cells. This shows that Zhineng Qigong has a partially inhibiting and killing effect on cells Hela that have grown into small clones.

2. The influence of Zhineng Qigong on the number of clones that have finally grown into big clones (Result is shown in Table 2): The experiment is also carried out in three batches, and the results are relatively identical. After the culture of 11 days, there are in each vessel averagely 108 clones with over 50 cells in the control group, while there are about only 80 clones with over 50 cells in each vessel in the qigong group. This shows that there are about 30 small clones in each vessel of the qigong group that have been inhibited or killed in their growing process and fail to grow into the clones with over 50 cells. Zhineng Qigong can inhibit the formation of the clones of cell Hela.

One tumor cell can generally grow into a clone with over 50 cells within ten to 14 days after it becomes adhered to the wall. If it is killed before or shortly after it be- comes adhered to the wall, the tumor cell will not be able to grow into a clone. Or if, instead of being killed, the tumor cells are but inhibited in their growth, the number of clones they form will be small. The result of the first part of our experiment shows that Zhineng Qigong can partially kill or inhibit cells Hela before or shortly after they become adhered to the wall and can reduce the number of clones that finally come into form. Then we take a step further and ask the qigong masters to transmit qi to the cells Hela that have already grown into small clones with 20 cells in each and are at a time of vigorous growth. The result shows that Zhineng Qigong also has an inhibiting and killing effect on them and reduces the number of clones that finally grow into clones with over 50 cells. The result of the two parts of experiment show that Zhineng Qigong has an effect of inhibiting and killing cells Hela cultured outside the human body. We have also made a comparison of qi transmission that is conducted by several qigong masters working together and by a single qigong master working alone. The killing effect on cells Hela by qigong masters uniting together is stronger than by one single qigong master. As for the functioning mechanism of Zhineng Qigong killing tumor cell, we have preliminarily observed that it is probably apoptosis of cells Hela. But it still needs proof with further experiment.

Abstract

  Human cervix cancer is one of the obscure, complicated and persistent ailments that endanger human lives. This experiment aims at getting to know the influence of Zhineng Qigong on the division of cell (cell Hela) in the cervix. The eight experiments preliminarily show that, after having been treated with Zhineng Qigong external qi in the early stage of division, cells Hela cultured outside the human body stop their division in seven experiments. Cells can still divide in one experiment. The cell division in the control group goes on normally.

Material and Method

  1. Tumor cell: Choose cells Hela that are growing well for stable sub-culture and ensure that they grow and divide exuberantly.
  2. Person who transmits external qi: Qigong master Luo Ping from HuaXiaZhinengQigongTrainingCenter.
  3. Micro Video System: Adopt Nikon inverted microscope and its video system. Observe the condition of cell division (constant temperature at 370 C) under the microscope and videotape it.
  4. Method of experiment: stable subculture. Choose the representative cells clear in the field of vision in the early stage of cell division and fix the visual field. Transmit qi on top of the culture bottle, about 50min each time. Observe the condition of cell division under the microscope. Video it with micro TV video system.

From the table it can be seen that the cells in the control group finished their division within 30 minutes. Seven groups in the experiment group stopped their normal division process. Only one group finished its division.

 

Discussion

In recent years, some of the research into the killing effects of qigong external qi on tumor cells has been reported. Yet to successively observe cells Hela cultured outside the human body with the microscope system and at the same time send external qi into them; record this dynamic process for a long period of time with video and give description—this has not been found in the report. The result of the experiment preliminarily shows that Zhineng Qigong can affect the normal division process of cell Hela. But we still need to increase the number of experiment and to make statistical analysis. Besides, through which link does Zhieng Qigong external qi influence the division of tumor cells as well as what kind of external qi transmission method will kill tumor cells to the utmost extent by means of affecting cell division—these are questions worth exploration. Abstract

Use Flow Cytometer to analyze the synthesis of DNA and the cell cycle in the cells of human liver cancer (BEL-7402). The result of the experiment proves that cell growth in the experiment group is inhibited. The cells are checked and piled up in the pre-synthesis phase (Stage G1), as hinders the cells from entering the DNA synthesis stage (Stage S), thus disturbing the duplication of DNA.

Preface

We have proved in experiment that Zhineng Qigong can inhibit the growth of animals’ transplanted sarcomas and the multiplication of cancer cells cultured outside the human body. Yet the mechanism of the inhibition still needs exploration. In the experiment reported in this article, flow cell luminosity method (FCM) is adopted in the research and the analysis of Zhineng Qigong’s effect on DNA synthesis and on the cell cycle in the liver cancer cell in order to make a preliminary exploration into Zhineng qigong’s function on cancer inhibition.

 

Material and Method

  1. Culture of Cells:

The cancer cells used in this experiment are the cell line (BEL-7402) of liver cancer in the human body established by Chen Ruiming, et al., in Shanghai Cell Biological Institute. They are epithelium-like malignant cells. We culture the cells in the culture medium of RPMI 1640 that contains 15 percent of calf blood serum. Experiment group and control groups are established which are cultured in two separate incubators. The experiment group receives qi transmitted by qigong masters, 3 min to 5min for each transmission. The control group is not treated by any special process. The experiment is done repeatedly for three times.

  1.  Fluorescent Coloring of DNA and FCM Measurement

Make cancer cell samples according to the special technical requirement of this measurement. After RNA enzyme digestion and with ProPidium Iodide (PI) fluorescent coloring, we measure the PI fluorescence intensity of individual cell at the speed of 1000 cells per second, with each sample being measured for at least 10,000 cells, using FACS 420 Fluorescence Stimulation Cells Divided Sorter(product of Becton-Dicknson Company). The laser illuminator includes 2 watt argon ion laser, with the wave length at 488 nm. The PI fluorescence passes through 585nm interrupted filter. It is measured with photomultiplier tube and is analyzed with polygram pulse analyser. Scatter diagram and histogram of the DNA of the cells are shown. Data obtained are input into computer. Carry out curve fitting analysis according to FACS 420 software multi-normal fitting program and compute the DNA content so as to obtain the percentage of the cell cycle (G1, S1, G2+M) and the variation coefficient (cv%) of G1.

 

Result

  1. Statistics obtained from FCM measurement shows that Cancer cells in the control group are

in a swiftly multiplying state. The cell numbers in the DNA synthesis period (Stage S) are higher.  They are respectively 61%, 64% and 39% in the three experiments. The cell cycle in the experiment group is 35%, 40% and 27%. Yet, the number of cells in the experiment group in pre-synthesis phase (Stage G1) is 2 to 3 times higher than that of the control group. It is 35%, 40% and 48% in the experiment group, but only 10%, 19 % and 18% in the control group. This indicates that the growth of cancer cells in the experiment group is inhibited under the effect of external qi, therefore most cells are checked in their growth and piled up in Stage G1, as hinders the cells from smoothly going into Stage S, which consequently interferes the synthesis of DNA.

  1. We have also studied the influence of external qi on the growth curve of BEL-7402. The re-

sult shows that cell multiplication in the experiment group is evidently inhibited. The experiment is done repeatedly twice with similar result that agrees with the result of FCM measurement.

     Discussion

We know that cell cycle is divided into four stages: 1) From the time when mitosis is finished to the time before DNA is duplicated, which is called Stage G1; b) Stage S when DNA is being duplicated and the content of DNA is twice that in Stage G1; c) From when the duplication of DNA is finished to the beginning of mitosis, which is called Stage G2. 4) From the beginning of cell division to the end of it, as is Stage M. When cell cycle is being analyzed, the biochemical method is adopted in measuring the average content of DNA in the cell mass, the method of autograph with the incorporation of 3H-thymidian is used to measure the parameter of cell cycle, or static cytophotometer is used to measure the content of DNA in a large number of cells and a histogram of the distribution of the content of DNA is drawn in order to analyze the cell cycle. These methods are not only time-consuming and reqire a lot of effort but usually can’t reach the accuracy degree required in statistics.

FCM is a comparatively new modern international technique that can quickly and accurately measure the content of DNA in every cell and can compute the transmigration change of cellgeneration cycle. The result of our experiment proves that the external qi causes the aggregation of liver cells BEL-7402 in Stage G1 and hinders the cells from smoothly going into Stages S, the DNA synthesis stage when the genetic substance is duplicated. Because of the interference of the external qi, the synthesis of DNA is affected and blocked. This is one of the mechanism that external qi inhibits tumor.

Although this experiment is preliminary, it provides a certain theoretical basis for Zhineng Qigong’s the mechanism inhibiting tumor.

The Influence of Qigong External Qi on the Secretion of Prolactin in Normal Rats

Abstract

In this experiment, normal male Sprague-Dawley(S.D.) rats are taken as experimental subjects and the radioactive immunity method is used in measuring the content of prolactin in their plasma (PRL) in order to observe qigong’s effect of external qi on the secretion of prolactin in the resting rats or in the rats in a restricted stress reaction state. The result of the experiment shows that qigong external qi can evidently increase the content of PRL in the plasma of resting rats; while the level of PRL after the restricted stress reaction, instead of going up, goes slightly down. This shows that qigong external qi can enhance the rats’ secretion of PRL when they are in a still state. It can also inhibit their release of PRL when they are in a restricted stress reaction state.

Preface

It has been reported that qigong external qi can inhibit the mitosis of the tumor cells cultured outside the human body (1) and can reduce the blood sugar concentration in experimental diabetic rats (2). However, the influence of external qi on the secretion of hormone in normal resting rats and in the rats in a stress reaction state has not been reported yet. It is already known that the secretion of prolactin in human beings’ and in animals’ anterior lobe of pituitary gland is liable to be affected by the condition in the outside world. Therefore, in this experiment, normal rats are used as experimental subjects to observe whether qigong external qi can affect prolactin (PRL) in resting rats and in the rats in restricted stress reaction.

 

Materials and Method

  1. Experiment on the animal:

17 male Sprague-Dawley (S.D.) rats (provided by Animal Research Laboratory of Military Academy of Medical Science) are used in this experiment. They are 240g to 260g in weight and are divided into two big groups. The first big group receives qi from the qigong master when the rats are in a calm state. Blood is taken from them both before and after the qi transmission. The second big group receives qi from the qigong master when they are in a restricted stress reaction state. Blood is taken from them before the stress reaction and also after the stress reaction that is accompanied with the qigong master’s external qi transmission.

On the day before the experiment, using the method previously reported(3), prepare the silicon rubber duct and fix it to each of the rats from the vein on their neck to their right atrium so as to take blood from the clear-headed rats that are in free activity.

Between 10am to 11am on the day of the experiment, conduct and complete the experiment on the rats according to the following procedure: Group One (five rats): Take blood sample respectively from each rat and then the qigong master transmits qi to them; take blood sample respectively again from each of them 5m to 10m after the qi transmission. Group Two: This group is further divided into two small groups (6 rats in each group). Take blood sample from them both before and after the stress reaction. Then immediately do restricted stress reaction experiment on the two small groups of rats (Put them into specially made plexiglass cover until the end of the experiment). When this is over, take blood sample from each rat in the first small group (the control group in which no qigong is used). The second small group, having experienced the restricted stress reaction, receives qi from the qigong master. When the qi transmission is over, blood sample is taken from each of them. The amount of blood taken each time from each of these rats is about 1.2ml. Heparin (20IU/ml) normal saline of the same amount is supplemented to these animals after the blood sample is taken from them. The blood sample (heparin anticoagulation) is centrifugalized (3000 rpm, 20min, 40C) and blood plasma is obtained. The blood plasma is kept in the refrigerator at -200 C. It is so kept ready for measuring its hormone content.

  1. Measuring the hormone content in the blood plasma:

With the method we have reported(4), measure the PRL content with the radioactive immunity method. The radioactive immunity measurement box that measures PRL is provided by NLADDK of America.

  1. Data processing and statistical analysis:

The numerical value is indicated with “the average value±standard deviation (x±se)”; T-test is adopted in checking the significance of the difference in the numerical value.

Result

1. The influence of qigong external qi on the secretion of PRL of resting rats

Qigong master transmits qi to the five rats in the group that are in a calm state with the mental instruction of increasing their PRL. As a result, the PRL content in their blood plasma after the qigong master’s transmission of qi has evidently increased. The PRL content is increased to twice that amount before they receive external qi (P<0.05). (See Table 1)

in the Resting Rats

The PRL content in the plasma of the first small group of rats of the second big

group becomes obviously increased after the stress reaction. It has increased five

times the PRL content before the stress reaction (P<0.02). The second small group of rats receive qi after the stress reaction from the qigong master who transmits qi to them with the mental instruction of reducing their PRL. As a result, no evident increase occurs in the PRL content in the blood plasma of this second small group of  rats. In comparison with the PRL content in the plasma of this group before the stress reaction, the change in the PRL content shows no statistical significance. Yet in comparison with the PRL content of the first small group after the stress reaction, P value is less than 0.01 (P<0.01)­­. (See Table 2)

Discussion

In recent years, research into the nature of qigong external qi and into the biological

effect it produces has been made in many a subject from many a perspective. Yet it is still difficult to judge whether the external qi transmitted from the human body in the qigong state belongs in electric effect, magnetic effect or infrasonic sound effect or whatsoever. Nevertheless, from clinical observation and experimental observation, the biological effects of qigong external qi objectively exist. Therefore this experiment also tries to make a preliminary exploration into this objective reality.

From the result of our experiment, it can be clearly seen that the qigong master transmits qi to the two big groups of rats respectively with the mental instruction to increase the PRL in their still state and decrease the PRL after they have experienced stress reaction. After the transmission of qi, the PRL content in the plasma of the rats in the calm state becomes evidently increased (P<0.05), while the PRL content level after the stress reaction slightly decreases instead of increase. This shows that qigong external qi can enhance the secretion of PRL in rats in the calm state and inhibit the release of PRL in rats when they are in a restricted stress reaction state. As to through what functional mechanism qigong external qi produces the above-mentioned effect, it needs further exploration.

In view of the result mentioned above, we deem that a certain amount qigong external qi can influence the secretion of PRL in rats in a calm state and the release of PRL in rats in a stress reaction state. Yet it is worth mentioning that in our series of experimental work, we have seen that different qigong masters, though transmitting the same kind of qigong external qi, produce different biological effects (Data of these experiments not provided here). Therefore, we think that, with further development in the research into qigong external qi, if we can have relatively explicit definition of the attribute of the external qi and there can be relatively better objective index in the method of measurement, research into the medical and biological effects of qigong external qi will become further improved.

Abstract

To explore the principles of Zhineng Qigong’s preventive and curative effect on some cerebral blood vessel diseases, we research with Laser Doppler Blood Flow Meter (Perflux PF2, Sweden), tape-record instrument, microelectronic computer and special-purpose data analysis software and investigate whether Zhineng Qigong can change the condition of impediment in rats’ cerebral microcirculation. In the experiment, we choose to use Wistar rats that are operated on the cranial bone with the acute open method. Noradrenalin is dropped on part of the open area to cause cranial microcirculation impediment in the animal model. Then the change in the cranial microcirculation is measured respectively before, when and after external qi is transmitted. The result of the experiment shows that Zhineng Qigong external qi has no evident influence on the blood flow perfusion of normal cranial microcirculation (P>0.05), but it has an improving effect on the cranial microcirculation impediment caused by noradrenalin and this is shown in the evident increase in the blood flow in the brain (P<0.05). The result of this research provides a preliminary theoretical basis for Zhineng Qigong external qi curing cranial blood vessel diseases. However, the nature of qigong and its principle of function still need further study.

Preface

Cranial blood vessel disease is a common and frequently-occurring disease that severely threatens people’s health. The death rate and the disability rate it causes are very high. Both China and other countries emphasize the research into the prevention and the cure of cranial blood vessel disease. Will qigong external qi have a preventive and curative function on cranial blood vessel disease? Some qigong masters have achieved a certain successful clinical effects. However, no report on the research of its theoretical basis has been found. Therefore, with the method and the instrument used in the research in modern medical science, we make an exploring research into whether qigong external qi can change the impediment condition in cranial blood vessel.

 

Material and Method

  1. Animal: We choose healthy Wistar rats, with no confinement to whether male or female. These rats are provided by the Medical Animal Research Institute of Beijing Medical Science University. They are divided into a normal control group (N group) and a microcirculation impediment therapy group (T group) in the experiment.
  2. Qigong external qi transmission:With the recommendation of HuaXiaZhinengQigongTrainingCenter, Qigong master Li Shimin is chosen to transmit external qi according to the theory and method of Zhineng Qigong.
  3. Instrument and index: Use Laser Doppler Blood Flow Meter (Mode Perflux PF2, made in Sweden). Experimental data are recorded with tape-record instrument. These data are analyzed with computer IBM PC486 using the special-purpose software developed by our institute. Microcirculation blood flow is chosen as the index of measurement and analysis. The result is statistically processed with T-test.
  4. Experimental method and procedure: The temperature in the laboratory is controlled within the range of 200C to 220C. The rats are injected with pentobarbital sodium (30mg/kg) in their stomach to make them become anaesthetized. Fix the rats lying prostrate on the small operation table. Prepare the acute cranial bone window with the routine method used in our institute. Expose the soft meninges of the rats. Continuously drop onto them artificial cerebrospinal fluid to maintain the physiological environment(1). Then gently attach the probe of the blood flow instrument to the soft meninges of the cranial bone window and fix the probe with brace. Wait until the blood flow has become stable for 20m to 30m and the experiment can be conducted.

The blood flow of the rats in Group N and in Group T has already been measured in their normal condition. Then the surface of the meninges of the cranial bone window in Group T are dropped with 0.01% levarterenol bitartrate (50ul) to cause local cranial microcirculation impediment. Group N is not treated by any special process. Five minutes later, they are treated with Zhineng Qigong external qi. The qi transmission process goes on for successively 15 minutes. The parameter of the microcirculation blood flow is measured respectively before external qi is applied, when the external qi is being transmitted (at the very beginning of qi transmission, 5th min, 10th min and 15th min), and when the transmission of the external qi is finished (at the 5th min and the 10th min after the qi transmission). Record and analysis are carried out at the mean time.

 

Result

  1. Influence of qigong external qi upon normal cranial microcirculation: The blood flow of the normal cranial microcirculation in the rats is comparatively stable. Slight change takes place in it after qigong external qi is applied but it has no statistical significance. The blood flow is restored to the normal level after external qi transmission is over.
  2. The therapeutic effect of qigong external qi on cranial microcirculation impediment: When noradrenalin (NA) is dropped onto the surface of their brain, severe local cranial microcirculation impediment is immediately created in the rats, which is mainly shown in the decrease of the blood flow in their local cranial microcirculation. Transmitting external qi at this moment can immediately make the microcirculation impediment condition caused by NA change for the better. The blood flow of cranial microcirculation is raised. The amplitude of the diastole and the contraction motion of the capillary blood vessel are increased. But stop the transmission of external qi and the blood flow goes down (See the figure at the end of the article). The experimental result stated above shows that Zhineng Qigong external qi does not have evident influence on normal blood flow of cranial microcirculation. Yet it has evident improving effect on the cranial microcirculation in a pathological condition (See the table below).

Discussion

Brain is the most exuberant part in metabolism in an organic body. The amount of its oxygen consumption constitutes about 20 percent of that in the whole body. Many a pathological foundation for the cranial blood vessel disease or its pathogeny link is related to the cranial microcirculation impediment. Impediment in the provision of blood and oxygen in part of the brain or the whole of the brain can cause the increase in CO2 and in acid metabolite in the brain tissue. Then the cerebral blood vessel will dilate and the function of the brain tissue will be damaged. Therefore, to improve cerebral microcirculation during the process when the cerebral blood vessel disease is coming on can break the vicious circle of the impediment in microcirculation, abnormality in metabolism, functional impediment and aggravation in microcirculation impediment, and this has great significance for the treatment of some cerebral blood vessel diseases.

The result of this research shows that qigong external qi can evidently change for the better the condition of cerebral microcirculation impediment in the rats in an anaesthetized state. This is a discovery that is of great significance. Qigong curing disease is part of Chinese traditional medical science and has a very long history. In the past, it was believed by some people that in the process when diseases were being cured there must be the involvement of the mentality of the patients who were being treated. Thus qigong is considered to belong in “hint therapy”. The experiment in this research shows that qigong external qi can directly function on an organic body and change the functional state of some tissues and organs in it, without necessarily requiring the cooperation of the consciousness of the patients who are being cured. The experimental result of this research provides an important theoretical basis for qigong external qi to cure some cerebral blood vessel diseases.

The reason why NA causes the impediment in cerebral microcirculation is that it functions on the αreceptor in the cerebral blood vessel. It causes the contraction and the convulsion in the cerebral blood vessel and reduces the blood flow of cerebral microcirculation. There are many ways to change this microcirculation impediment for the better, eg., the effect to antagonize the αreceptor, to directly dilate the involuntary muscles in the cerebral blood vessel, to influence the ion transfer in the cells of the involuntary muscles, etc.. In recent years, there is a new research achievement: the endothelial cells of the cerebral blood vessels have an important adjusting effect on the dilation and the contraction function of cerebral blood vessels. Through which channel qigong external qi improves the blood flow of cerebral microcirculation—this is a new topic worth further exploration.

Summary

1. Qigong external qi has no evident effect on normal cerebral microcirculation. It has an evident improving effect on the impediment in microcirculation caused by NA, as is shown in its increasing the blood flow in local cerebral microcirculation. This  research provides a theoretical basis for qigong external qi to cure some cerebral blood vessel diseases.

2. The mechanism of how qigong external qi improves cerebral microcirculation is worth further exploration.

Abstract

In this article, erythrocyte Cb3 receptor cockade rate, erythrocyte immune compound cockade rate and autologous cockade rate are chosen as the indices in testing the immune condition in Zhineng Qigong masters, in chronic disease patients in Zhineng Qigong classes, in old people who have not practiced qigong and in blood donators. It is discovered that these three kinds of cockade rates in qigong masters are all extremely evidently higher than those in other groups (P<0.001); the three cockade rates in the patients are all lower than the normal level before they learn qigong but are quickly restored to the normal level after they learn qigong. Among the three cockade rates, the change in the C3 receptor cockade rate of erythrocyte is comparatively sensitive; the three cockade rates in the old people who do not practice qigong and in the blood donators have no obvious difference. The result of this article reminds us that Zhineng Qigong has an enhancing effect on the immune function of human body’s erythrocytes and the immune function of their autologous cockade forming cells.

Preface

In recent years, qigong practice among the mass of people has become a vigorous campaign. The number of qigong researchers is also steadily on the rise. Although the angles of these researchers’ research differ, they all help in developing qigong science. Studies on various qigong effects can help promote the association between qigong and modern science and can also help change the prejudices against qigong. Among these researches, little has ever been reported abroad as to the effect of qigong on human body’s immune functions. In China, only some study on immunoglobulin, few immune cells and immunological factors are reported. The research reported in this article about the study on the effect of qigong on the immune function of erythrocyte and autologous forming cell in the human body is so far what has not been reported both home and abroad. It is now introduced as follows:

 

Methods and Target

I. Subject

  1. Qigong masters:

33 qigong masters who have practiced Zhineng Qigong for over two years, 51 to 80 years of age (64.5±1.0 years old).

  1. Patients:

21 learners in Zhineng Qigong class, 35 to 76 years old (55±0.5) who suffer from different kinds of chronic diseases (arthritis, cholecystitis, pyelonethritis, diabetes, disease in cervical vertebra, sciatica, etc). The qigong class lasts 20 days. Tests are conducted on them before their qigong study, during their qigong study (on the 10th day of the Zhineng Qigong class) and after their qigong study (when they have studied qigong for 20 days).

  1. Old people who have not practiced qigong: 54 healthy old people in the staff of ZhinengQigongTraining School and their family members, 52 to 76 years of age.
  2. Blood donators who do not practice qigong: 53 blood donators from the hospital affiliated to our training school, 28 to 40 years of age (33.5±0.5).

II. Materials

  1. Heparin anticoagulant fresh venous blood: collect from the objects of the test.
  2. Lymph cell separating medium(Ficoll): produced by Shanghai Second Reagent Factory.
  3. Complement sensitized yeast reagent and non-sensitized yeast reagent: provided by Microbiological Teaching and Research Office of Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine College (Liquid reagent, yeast concentration 1×108/ml, sensitized by blood serum of guinea pig. It is sensitized on the day when the reagent is used).
  4. Method:
    1. Collect a little autogenous blood plasma from the heparin anticoagulant blood sample. Then separate lymph cells and red blood cells from the blood sample according to the methods recorded in literature(1, 2). Wash and prepare the cell suspension of the concentration that is needed and conduct three tests of cockade.
    2. The test of erythrocyte Cb3 Receptor cockade (RC3bRR) and the test of erythrocyte immune compound cockade (RICR) are conducted according to Guo Feng Method(1), while the yeast reagent that we use is produced by Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine College. The test of the autologous cockade forming cell experiment follows the method adopted by Chen Ping, et al(2). The two kinds of erythrocyte immune cockade are judged by the standard that erythrocyte sticks to two or over two yeasts as a cockade. The autologous cockade is judged by one lymph cell sticking to three or more than three autoerythrocytes as a cockade. The three cockade rates involve counting 200 cells respectively that will be tested before the rate of cockade will be counted.
    3. Data Statistics:

The experimental data are checked and processed with variance analysis and rank sum test on computer in the Sanitation-and-Statistics Teaching and Research Office in our school.

Result

  1. The average and the standard deviation of the test result of the three indices in the

five groups of qigong masters, patients before and after they learn qigong, old people who do not practice qigong and blood donators (Table 1):

  1. In the same batch of experiment, test at the same time some qigong masters and

the old people who do not practice qigong. Mix them up and number them with blindfold method. Here is the result of the three cockade rates in them (Table 4).

Discussion

Ever since 1981 when Siegel put forward the concept of erythrocyte immunity, research into it has been developing in a fantastic speed. It is now known(3) that erythrocyte has such functions as distinguishing antigens, adhering to and killing antigens and clearing the recycling immune compound. The more advanced the animals, the more wholesome the immunity function of their erythrocytes. Erythrocyte, being multitudinous in number in the human body and wide-spread in their distribution, has the immune effect that in many aspects can not be replaced by leucocytes. Erythrocyte also takes part in the immunity adjustment of the human body. It also has in itself a self adjustment system. In the research into the mechanism of many diseases, the immunity factor of erythrocytes has once been neglected. For example, weakness in the immunity function of erythrocyte exists in autoimmunity disease such as SLE and rheumatoid arthritis, in infectious disease such as hepatitis B, and in many kinds of cancer. This not only directly affects the immunity effect, but causes the function of lymph to become maladjusted. To explore from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the immune function of erythrocyte can best reflect the abundance and the absence of qi and blood in the human body. A lot of patients who suffer from the weakness in the kidney are weak in their immune function of erythrocyte. In the experiment reported in this article, according to the fact that qigong has the function of clearing jingluo and adjusting qi and blood, we choose two most fundamental indices to test the immune function of erythrocyte, ie., erythrocyte Cb3 receptor cockade and erythrocyte immune compound cockade, and test Zhineng Qigong masters and the chronic cases who attend Zhineng Qigong classes. At the same time, some healthy old people who do not practice qigong and the blood donators are chosen to compare with them. It is found that the two kinds of erythrocyte immune cockade rates in the qigong masters are both rather evidently higher than those in the other groups (P=0.0000); the two erythrocyte immune cockade rates in the patient group are both lower than the normal level before they started learning qigong, yet are both improved after they practice qigong and the rates have reached or even surpassed the normal level. These two facts above show that qigong can improve the immune function of erythrocyte in the human body. Particularly with qigong masters who have long practiced qigong, the condition of qi and blood in them are more exuberant than the healthy old people and the blood donators who are in the youth and the prime of their life.

In addition, in the two indices, the change in erythrocyte Cb3 receptor cockade rate seems to be more sensitive, as it can be seen from Fig.1 and Fig.2 that this cockade rate has become evidently improved when the patients have learned qigong for only ten days and is restored to the normal level. When they have practiced qigong for 20 days, this cockade rate in them has even surpassed the normal level. From Fig. 5 it can be seen that this cockade rate is evidently increased when a qi field is organized in comparison with the first test result when the qi field is not organized.

Zhineng Qigong, based on the theory of hunyuan entirety, emphasizes the human

group and community effect and teaches qigong and cure patients when the qi field is organized. Zhineng Qigong teachers mobilize hunyuanqi in nature and the qi of the people who are present with their mind to form a unified qi field. To teach qigong and cure disease in the qi field can get twice the expected result with only half the effort.

In 1970, Siegel and Micklem observed respectively that the cells in rabbits’ chest gland and the T cells in mice adhered to the erythrocytes in their own body (45). Later on, some scholars did research into this phenomenon and believed that this is related to subgroup of T cells. Caraux and Palacios did relatively systematic research in 1979(6) and 1980 (7) respectively on human being’s autologous cockade forming cells (ARFC). It is now believed that ARFC belongs to a sub-group of T cell. It has the differentiation antigen (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+) of post-prosoma-cell in the thymocyte. It is closely related to self-recognition. Aside from its ability of forming its own cockade with the erythrocytes in itself, ARFC can multiple when it is activated by the DR antigen in itself and cause the reaction in autologous mixedlymphocyte. ARFC can differentiate and form the two kinds of important cells of CD4+and CD8+ that take part in the immunity adjustment in the human body. CD8+ cells can transform into simultaneous killing cells that has the function of killing cancer cells. Therefore ARFC plays an important part in the immunity of the organic human body. Reports on ARFT being applied in the research of disease are not many. In China, we only find the test report on 105 cases of cancer written by Shi Cunjia, et al.(8), in which it was found that the cockade rate of the patients of cancer is obviously lower than that of the healthy people; particularly in those patients who suffer from liver cancer, nose cancer, pharynx cancer and malignant lymphatic tumor, the cockade rate is extremely low. ARFT being used in the research into qigong’s effect on immunity has not been found in reports both home and abroad. This simple and new index is chosen by authors of this article to conduct test on Zhineng Qigong masters, on patients who suffer from chronic diseases and who learn Zhineng Qigong in Zhineng Qigong classes, on old people who have not practiced qigong and on blood donators. It is found that the cockade rate in qigong masters is obviously higher than that in each of the other groups (P<0.001). The autologous cockade rate in the patients is evidently lower than the normal level of healthy people but is restored to the normal level after they learn Zhineng Qigong. Although the autologous cockade rate of the old people group is higher than that of the blood donators group, it has no significant difference in statistics. All of the above evidence shows that qigong can restore patients’ autologous cockade rate to the normal level; particularly that qigong masters who have practiced qigong for many years can keep their autologous cockade rate at a level higher than the normal level. This indicates that qigong practitioners exceeds people who do not practice qigong in producing and restoring autologous cockade forming cells that have the immune potentials. Therefore qigong practice has good effect in restoring the immunity balance of the human body, in maintaining human body’s stability in health and in preventing and curing cancer.

As the three indices of the qigong masters are all obviously higher than those of the other groups, we arrange two other experiments (as shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. 5) in order to get rid of the influence of the experimental condition and to prove the reliability of the experiment. In Fig.4, it shows that in the same batch of experiment qigong masters and the group of old people are tested at the same time. The samples are mingled and numbered with the “blindfold” method. As a result, the three kinds of cockade rate of the two groups of people are widely different. Those rates of the group of qigong masters are still evidently higher than those of the old people group.

In Fig. 5, it shows that part of the qigong masters are re-tested two months later. In

the results of the two tests, except for erythrocyte Cb3 receptor(It has previously been discussed that this cockade is comparatively sensitive because of the influence of qi field organization), the other two cockade rates do not show evident differences. Tests recorded in Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 show that qigong masters’ three indicies are higher than those of the other groups, as is an objective existence, with liable experimental result.

The research into the immunity effect of qigong in this article is not only novel in the index it has chosen, but also creative in the design of the experimental subjects that are tested. With the active assistance of Zhineng Qigong Research Association of Sichuan province, we are able to research the immunity change in several dozens of well-trained Zhineng qigong masters, which is impossible to be conducted abroad and also a very rare chance in China. And moreover, the experimental result can serve as an evidence to prove the immunity effect of qigong. Therefore, this report may be able to play a role in exerting its due function to develop Chinese culture and to explore qigong’s mechanism. Since the index of this research needs the sample of blood, which makes the choosing and mobilization of the objects of experiment become rather difficult, restrictions are found in the number of samples, the choice of cases, ages, sexes and grouping of the experimental objects. Besides, what is recorded in this article is just the research into Zhineng Qigong, research into other schools of qigong and as well sportsmen are still needed in order to make further exploration into qigong’s immunity mechanism.
